Why designers should learn how to code ?

I was checking my mail when I got at this subject on linkedIn group … the topic was “Why designers should learn how to code?” http://sixrevisions.com/web_design/
I’m sure that the article on sixrevisions is writen by a programmer. If one’s going to be web designer well.. he have to know some programming yes, but then what about developing RIA? If one’s going to be print designer why does he need to know php/asp/whatever? The designer is a creative person in terms of art. Programming and drawing doesn’t mix well if you ask me. Here’s why.. one can do ’some’ programming and can do ’some’ drawing … so… what? Is that particular person good at anything or just knows some stuff? It’s a matter of mentality. The mentality for design and graphics is sooo different from the programming that I think one can write whole book about it.
